page four of etiolated. the first panel imposes text over an abstracted chain-link fence with locks and a cut-off sign that says "help". this is what a bridge barrier looks like on the pedestrian level. the imposed text says "find the details. until WE get organized, we individually can't do much to help each other, not really. but we have been here all along and walked on". the next panel reads "approaching disaster. i feel it more than some. my pain is rational, caused by designed injustice. why acquire objects when nothing is real?" the words are mixed with the currents of water washing through a skull, as well as with floating words: "anxiety, pandemic, depression, agoraphobia, climate grief, fatigue, bigotry, complacency, flint michigan". next, four books display partially obscured titles: "how shall we now live", "candide", "atlas shrugged", "wrinkle in time". words continue, "a heady mix of strawberry fields and escatology; absurdism and conservative evangelical christianity populated my childhood." the last panel is a photograph of the suspension pedestrian bridge at reedy river falls in greenville, south carolina. text finishes, "during school i dreamed of nature; of running into the woods; of heaven. i recognize this now as suicidality. then, i thanked chhrist and prayed to dream of release again"

romantic couples leave combination and key locks on the fence boundaries of bridges to symbolize the eternity of their bond. emergency services leave signs on the fence boundaries of bridges with messages for any person who is on the bridge to climb over the boundary.

the pedestrian bridge over reedy river waterfall curves from bank to bank. the curved bridge frames the waterfall for the viewer on the bridge or on the bank. the bridge at reedy river falls is my favorite bridge.
