page 19 of etiolated. a full page illustration of a house floor plan abstracted into a distillation still. across it is written: "i say a woman can be a minister if she's a good husband to her wife". surviving my upbringing meant that as a kiddo, i didn't acknowledge (much less understand) that i found beauty in bodies of all genders. after distilling my personal values out of my religious, conservative upbringing, i was able to see the joy of connecting with people and getting to know them in the way i most preferred. my parents made their house on their own, especially changing the lights to be comfortable and pretty. every room in the house was renovated or refreshed. mom and dad taught me critical thinking and reading skills, to look for respect in a partner, and to hold boundaries. intimacy requires social network, comes from consent leads to safety culture leads to comfort and sensuality. slow and physical. autism by nature requires safety, communication, and planning. along the side of the house are the words to two songs by rush, nobody's hero and everyday glory
