1 introducing etiolated

in 2023 i solicited questions from curious professionals regarding my experience of having adult-diagnosed autism spectrum disorder (asd). the (free, ongoing) nonfiction graphic novel ETIOLATED presented comprises my answers.

when i was growing up, i didn’t know i had autism, depression, anxiety, and an energy disorder. i hadn’t heard about transgender people, homosexual and pansexual people, or asexual people. nowadays i want to contribute to available knowledge for medical practitioners, families of the chronically mentally ill, and people like me: trans and trans-masculine adults raised as i was; disabled people who learn they can’t earn income in traditional ways.

page one of etiolated. one panel covers the page. the top reads "preparing to be homeless shares a lot with preparing to die". a photo of a pigeon is clipped over a drawing of a rectangular building with rectangular windows and rectangular plumbing and rectangular street accessories. a line of simplified blob people wait along the right of the building

this is a representation of the building at 828 broadway in manhattan. it is owned by and houses the enormous independent bookstore, strand books. a pigeon laid an egg on a windowsill on the third floor while i worked in the shipping department. the egg did not hatch.

at the base of the building, around the corner from the main entrance, is the line to sell books.
